Park Brake Lever in Drum Brakes
« on: July 17, 2016, 09:43:23 pm »
Hi Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster.  I'm having a bit of a problem.  I've got a 1980 K10 Scottsdale with the 12-bolt truck rear end torn down to the frame and am just in the process of putting it all back together.  I'm basically putting everything back to stock configuration, other than a 4" lift and a 700R4 transmission.  My problem is in the rear drum brakes.  I've got all the hardware I took out of it, and from a parts truck I bought, but am still missing a crucial piece.  Neither truck has the lever for the park brake cable to attach too that actuates the shoes when the park brake pedal is pressed.  I can't seem to find one anywhere on the web.  I've looked at   Truck, Classic Industries, Rock Auto, Ebay, random Google search and have come up totally empty.  I know I don't really need the park brake with an automatic trans, but I sure would like to have one.  Does anyone know where I can find the lever for both sides or if there is another year, make, model that interchanges?  I'm at a loss.

Thanks all.

I recommend you go with a hydro brake and eliminate the cables all together, never needs adjusting and will always work.

You need the parking brake bits to make the automatic adjusters work.

I hope the picture uploaded here.  I have everything in this picture except for part number 7.  Its the small lever that the cable pulls on and actuates the shoe and pulls it against the drum.  Neither of my trucks had this on either side, so I have no way of using my park brake.

What exactly is a hydro brake?

It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!
