add tach to 1975 gmc base sierra
« on: April 02, 2017, 05:58:36 pm »
hello
I have a 1975 GMC  Sierra Base model,350,sm 465 tranny. I would like to switch the fuel gauge to the empty spot (clock) on the left and install a tach in the big circle next to the speedo. My question is, is it possible to do with after market equipment and if so, does the print circuit come into play?? or is the print circuit mainly for lighting. I can probably fine an OEM tach but I hear theyre not the best... any feed back is appreciated.

I did this last fall. Very straightforward after you assemble the needed parts.

Need the tach, tach harness, printed circuit, and small fuel gauge. Need printed circuit for the relocated fuel gauge. Also, you will need to be sure that the cluster plug has the feed from the fuel sender (tan wire)
in the right place for the relocated fuel gauge. (Get the wiring diagram for your truck in the tech pages)

I reused my clear lens for gauge cluster, but if you don't want to be (slightly) distracted by clock-related variations to the lens then you need one of those too.

thank you for the info, I now realize there is not really an open space for me to move the gas gauge, I have water temp, oil press, ampmeter, and brake light....need to look closer at a dahboard with tach.... by the way,,,should my brake light illuminate when I engage the parking brake? mine does not presently.

If you go after market then the new guages will just be hard wired.  However, the factory tach units work great and look appropriate.  I did have to order the correct housing circuit tach harness, new fuel guage tach and printed circuit to make it happen though.  My truck was originally idiot lights, so repinning of the ip connector was also required for mine as well as adding grounds, and changing out some senders.  Was well worth the effort though.
