77 c20 th350 to nv4500 2wd
« on: May 12, 2017, 02:17:32 pm »
I have a 77 c20 2wd with the th350 auto trans but I'm looking to convert it to a 2wd nv4500 5 speed. All I can find is info on 4x4 conversions. Can someone point me in the right direction for this swap?

it would pretty much be the same except the 4x2 would have a tail housing not an adapter.
i know this is a 4x4 and its the sm465. but it may help a little

Thanks that helps with the pedals but I really need the overdrive. Speed limit is 70 in some areas here and doing 55 to keep the rpms reasonable is just not safe (rather annoying actually)

unless you are set on a stick shift a built 700R4 is a better way to go.  Same OD ratio as the NV4500.  Being that your truck is an automatic you have the low hump cab.  The NV4500 required the trans tunnel to be altered along with everything else.

One other thing you may consider is finding a 3.21 geared 14 bolt rear.  If you aren't towing real heavy loads that gear is a cruiser.  I have one in my 85 and it goes down the highway real nice

I do prefer manuals but it seems that the 700r4 is the easier way. I have 3.73 gears in the 14 bolt at the moment. Mainly wanting this as a car hauler/junk hauler but where I currently reside is up by Canada and every vehicle I can find worth restoring is completely rusted out, so traveling is required. Freaking sucks
