1983 K10 Temp Gauge rewire
« on: June 19, 2017, 11:10:47 pm »
I'm going thru my 83 K10 Scottsdale, the PO installed a few aftermarket gauges, but only connected the temp gauge to the sender.  Now I'm not sure if the old gauge or wiring is bad, but I would rather use the factory gauges if possible.  My main question is what factory wire goes to the temp sender?  Thanks in advance, i know this is probably going to be a hassle 😂😂😂

It's likely to be a green wire with a side entry, slide on connector, probably dangling on the driver's side of the engine bay if aftermarket gauges have been added.

Incidentally, the factory temp gauges are good, but not infallible.  They do fail from time to time, so if yours does not work after re-attaching the temp wire you may want to locate a known good gauge.  Replacing it is another story.  Let us know if it goes that far.

Do you have the testing procedure for the gauge?

Functional Tests of Factory GM Electric Gauges

Testing the gauges out of the vehicle, on the bench, is not practical without access to laboratory grade instruments, because of the low impedance of the gauge windings.
