Hello from the newbie
« on: June 05, 2005, 08:35:00 pm »
Hey folks, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.  Name's Mike, from central Wisconsin and I own an 86 Custom Deluxe 4x4 that I am just finishing a big pain in the arse paint job on.

Looks like a great website, I look forward to gaining some knowledge and sharing what I have learned.

Here's a picture of my truck just before this weekend, when I began color sanding the paint job getting it ready for buffing.

I have alot of work planned for it this summer, including a lift kit and getting the running gear freshened up.

Here's a link to the album with a few pics of the project.  Whew... When I bought this truck more then 8 years ago, I assumed I would have it painted in a few years!  In keeping with tradition I am famous for, I got waaay more involved in it and far to picky for my own good!

Welcome to the board from Minnesota.

Beautiful truck you have there, can't wait to see the "finished" pics.  :)

Welcome aboard! Nice truck, looks strait, and the body lines look good.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Thanks for the welcome and nice comments guys.  Yeah, the body is straight finally after I have replaced the bed, 1 fender, both doors and the hood!  I suck at bodywork and found out pretty darn fast just how much black will show ALL flaws!  It turned out o.k. for my first attempt at bodywork, so I hope this paintjob will hold up for 10 years or so if I take care of it.

Did you paint it? or just the body work? I know picture hide allot but it looks very good. If the foundation and prep work are top notch and the materials are quality it should last a long time.

Yep, I painted it and did all the bodywork too.  There were some small scratches, rust spots and dings everywhere so I had to fill them too.  Overall it will be fine for a toy / utility use.  I can't wait to lift it!

that is a sharp truck. it looks good and will look better when it's finished i can already tell. i like the 85 to 86 Custom Deluxes.i like the vinyl instead of the carpet and the window cranks better than the power windows.

Custom D

Yeah, the Custom D is cool for what I am using it for too.  Like you said, rubber mat, manual cranks and bare bones.  I wanted it where I could hose out the inside if I wanted to!  It will be fun to have a truck I dont care about getting muddy and run through the woods with.

Finished with most of the touch up and wetsanding today, and hood is mostly buffed out.  If the rest of the truck comes out like the hood did, it will be awesome..
