Manual Transmssion
« on: April 28, 2020, 11:59:37 pm »
I have a 87 Chevy truck with a 350 out of a 78 Chevy truck in it. The person I got it from put 4x4 in it as well. I’d like to switch the transmission into manual. I’m a beginner starting to rebuild this truck, any suggestions on a good used transmission to look for?

What is a good used transmission for this? I am a beginner just starting to restore this truck. It’s not in bad condition at all so I’m just sort of starting in areas I’d like as I go. Last week I put Magnaflow exhaust. I guess I don’t really know which direction to go other than where I can as money comes. The transmission is something I’d like to start looking for though.

I think most of these trucks that came with a manual transmission came with the SM465, which is a 3-speed, plus low gear.  The upgrade from that is the NV4500, which has overdrive.  If you run searches for "SM465 swap" and "NV4500 swap" that should keep you busy for a while.
