new suspension need advice
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:46:00 am »
i am curently restoring a 1984 3/4 ton custom delux, since i am replacing the suspension components i figured i would add some lift.my concern is that i don't want the side efects that can come with the wrong choice or size.i am using the truck primarily as a worker, but want to feel confident that i can take it off the road as well.my requirements are as follows i don't want to sacrifice any work related capabilities of the truck such as tow capacity etc.i would like to use a suspension that requires little altercations to exsisting parts such as lowering the transfer case ,steering column etc.however i am willing to modify if need be.any suggestions and info is greatly appriciated.please include brand name part numbers and any modifications necessary with application.or give a heads up of what products to stay away from so i can avoid others mistakes.like i said the truck is a 1984 3/4 ton custom delux (8 ft bed) 4x4.

I would go with a 2.5" or 4" lift kit.  The 2.5 is not all that great because it costs more than the 4.  The 4 will include new shocks, front springs, u-bolts, and rear blocks as well as a new steering arm that bolts to the front axle.  This usually runs about 350 to 375 on ebay with shipping.  I have also seen 2" add-a-leaf kits.

It all depends on what you want to do with your truck. What size tires do you want to run? Do you want to trim your fenders at all? If you want to keep your towing abilities I would go with a small lift like 1976Scottsdale stated. I would get a kit that includes the rear springs and stay away from the blocks. Rear blocks act just like a lever and increase axle wrap.  National tire and Wheel sells 2" or 4" Superlift kits with rear springs for $499. Includes shocks. I had 4" before and It was a good quality kit. I ran 35" BFG M/T with minor fender trimming. You will not have to lower the T-case for a small lift like this. :smokin

I am currently running the Tuff Country 6" lift kit with front and rear EZ ride springs.  Overall the kit was very well put together and went on in less than a day.  So far I have been impressed with the quality of the springs and the ride that they provide.  I highly recommend the Tuff Country Lifts.
