Washer fluid pump question?
«

Ever since I got my truck the pump has never worked, so my bro got me one he had laying around that works but when we hooked it up it is on all the time so we had to leave it off. The wire is getting power all the time when the key is on. We think it may be the turn signal switch that controls all of this that is bad. Anyone here have this problem or know anything about this?

You've got it hooked up to the wrong wire.Take a test light and check each wire with 1 person pushing on the squirt switch.(1 wire has key on power full time.)81-87 the washer pump is controlled via a pink and white wire.

My bro who is a tech at the dealership checked the wires and one of the wires has power all the time when the key is on. when we hooked up the new motor is just squirts all the time the key is on. The pink wire is hacked an ran into a blue one for some reason. Here are some pics.

well the pics won't load on here anymore but the pink wire is there and the white one goes into the wire harness that runs next to the fender. So either the problem is the pink wire of the switch is shorting to ground?

Do you have a pink going to the harness with the white?Did you put a test light on that pink wire and push the washer switch?

Yep, we checked all the wires we could think of. The wire doesn't go into the harness with the white one for some reason. My pic shows where the pink wire is spliced into a blue one for some reason.

So far you haven't said if you'd actually identified the washer wire or not with a test light or some other device. The washer jug is on the fender with a built in pump ,right? If so it should have a harness with 2 wires.

Years ago, when I was a little dumber than presently (not much though), I figured out a solution to my broken washer fluid pump on my 79. You see, I had this electric fuel pump laying on the shelf of my garage collecting dust and, well, you guessed it. It became my new washer fluid pump.
I ran wires from a toggle switch in my interior of the cab to the pump. I hooked up some vacuum hose from the pump to the resevoir and from the pump to the lines that lead to the squirting nozzles under the windshield.
Ha!! Let my windshield get dirty now!!
I flip that toggle switch and suddenly I feel as if I am driving under a waterfall
. No more dirt.

thanks roundedline for fixing my pics.
The wire I am holding in the pic is the pink wire that goes to the washer motor connector which is not in the harness with the rest of the wires for some reason and is spliced where the tape is. The white wire runs right next the pink one and then gets buried into the wire harness but the pink wire is just loose right next to the harness and runs into the splice in my pic.

the pump is behind the washer tank on the fender, the white wire is ground and the pink is the power but it is spliced and has the butt connector on it. the pink wire is hooked up to the wrong wire that has power at all times when the key is on, I.E. the spliced wire in my hand. The white wire runs into the big harness along the fender like the rest, just the pink wire is misplaced and rigged weird.

Just cut the extra wire so the pink goes only to the wash tank.Tape up the extra wire and it should work.Don't worry about what the extra wire does.Get the washer working right first, then figure out the other wire later.Maybe doesn't do anything.

I was fooling around the dash the other day and noticed the wires from my washer pump went to a switch there and sure enough this is what makes my washer pump work. Someone wired it up like a universal pump. I'm glad it works, dang bugs.
