ABS possible on our trucks?
« on: November 29, 2006, 08:07:00 am »
I know anything is possible...but has anyone seen/done an ABS system with hydra boost on our trucks? Got any suggestions? Starting a major rebuild of the '82 dually into a world class towing rig. Getting 6.5TD, propane, NV4500,air bags, extra fuel capacity, etc.

Anything is possible.  My 91 sub has rear wheel anti lock brakes.  there are several main parts to it....speed sensor on transfer case, ecu, control valve, etc.....

Best thing would be to get a donor vehicle (parts froom a slavage yard).  Ensure your tranny/transfer case will accept a speed sensor.  I have never done a changeover to abs, but i am sure it is possible.

GM used the Kelsey-Hayes RWAL  rear wheel anitlock braking system, i think beginning in 1990 (or close to that year).

Thanks for the heads up on the '90-'91 stuff, Sgt. The starting point for research I was looking for. Since I'll be using a NV4500 tranny, like Chevy did in the early '90's I'll assume I can get a speed sensor from somewhere to fit.
