DJM Rear Flip Kit HELP!!! two piece driveshafts?
« on: July 15, 2007, 11:46:03 pm »
Hey guys, I've searched and searched and even asked this question on other forums.  Looks like I've found the experts tho and hopefully I can get a straight answer.

I've got the DJM 5" rear flip kit, it's the deluxe version from summitt, all new hardware, u-bolts, etc.  Also shock extenders and I bought nitro drop shocks for it as well.  Here's my question;   On the install sheet supplied by DJM it says trucks with the two piece driveshaft have to modify the bracket that supports the center bearing.  My question is, how neccasary is this actually?  Who has had experience with this?  Is it the kind of thing I have to fix right then and there or can it wait a while or what?

Also, what do you guys reccomend for cutting off the factory bump stops?  My kit came with low pro bump stops I plan to use, but the bolts that hold on the bump stop brackets apparently have to be cut off, tips for this as well?

Thanks so much in advance.  Any pics would be a great help too.

What kind of truck are we working on?  LWB, SWB?  Does it have the 2 piece driveshaft?
If your has the 2 piece it will cause a vibration possibly if you don't modify it.

What kind of tools do you have access to?  You can use a cutoff wheel, grinder, torch or plasma cutter to remove stubborn bolts.

Yes I have the two piece shafts.  What's SWB and LWB and how do I tell which I have?  I know it's a short bed if that's what you mean.

I can deal with vibrations, I just don't want to cause damage to that center bearing or other things.  Ideally I'd like to put the kit on and be good to drive it a little more and take it to a fabrication shop to have them make me a new mount.  Any thoughts on this?

What do you think the vibrations are doing?  I would fix it right the first time.
