3/4 ton 2wd suspensions differences
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:31:40 am »
are there any differences between the suspensions on my 76 silverado c20 2wd camper special and my 84 gmc sierra c2500 2wd? I know visually the rear ends are different. The 76 has a hubs that stick out where the 84 does not. Thanks

The differences would be in the GVW rating.  The newer one has a semifloat 14 bolt corporate which is a less expensive rear end to produce.  Your 76 has the full float 14 bolt corporate rear end.  My 85 is a 8600GVW with the 454, it has the FF in it.

I don't care what anyone says. Even if the 76 and the 84 are rated the same, the 76 will carry a load better, and or hold more weight.
The full floating rear end carries its weight on the housing with an inner and outer wheel bearing. The axle or hub as you referred to it just drives the drum / wheel assembly. The semi floater carries its weight on and drives the wheel with the axle. It uses one wheel bearing in the end of the axle tube.
