turn indicator

[Bitzer!]

Hi guys- yes its me again!     with the '78 GMC bitzer   

At the moment I have a screw driver hanging out the steering column where the indicator stalk should be! (it was like it when I bought it-honest!)

Apart from the obvious [left/right signal] does the stalk have any other operation like high beam, horn etc as they do in the UK?

Would any-one be good enough to send me a new/used one (that works!) and I'll cover any costs to the UK and a drink for your time?

On my 79, the turn indicator stem is just for that.  High beams switch is on floor board.  Horn is on steering wheel (middle).  It is just for turn signals.

cheers SgtDel. Found the floor switch- dunno if it works yet. The horn has been moved to a separate switch for some reason.

Still trying to get this part- the guys in the UK say Cruise Control on the stalk? How do I know?!! The screw-driver is still hanging out the side!!

Cruise control was built into the turn signal lever.

you had cruise control on a 78?  isn't that a carbed engine?

From what I have found Automatic Speed control was offered beginning in 1977 when they added power windows/locks.

i'm guessing as there's no power windows/locks or A/C it must be just a plain old turn indicator and bog standard.

Yes its gotta bucket for a carb  and fuel prices over here work about $10-00 a gallon!!

mine is an 1981 with cruise control and ofcourse is carburated........ well thinking of converting it to  tuned port inj.

I'm nr good old London Town, UK. its 10-45am and raining! no change there then 

I may ask what appears to be silly questions to you but trying to find things over here is pants. I even searched Ebay USA for this stalk and cant find one anywhere. I'll have to see if the screw driver works!!

would anyone know if I fitted a standard stalk/arm would it cause any problems if it was supposed to have cruise?

Look under the hood an see if you have 2 speedo cables.  1 coming out of the firewall to a Box and one coming out of the box to the trans,  If it is, that was the cruise.  They weren't that good to begin with.  If you put a stock stalk in, it won't hurt anything.  The cruise stalk just screwed in and had a pigtail that ran through the column.

now that sounds good  I dont want/need cruise anyway!

Hopefully the guys have got it down to a choice of two! Where it fits into the column is it round or rectangular- its rectangular!!
