Radio Wiring...again....
« on: November 04, 2007, 06:27:33 pm »
I've searched for this already and didn't really find what I was looking for. Checked my Haynes and Chiltons and didn't find what I wanted either. Is there some way to determine where my radio wires in my 85 K10 go other than taking everything apart and tracing them. I.E. i need to know that speaker wires go to what speaker. I got the black, red, and orange and I know that those are for and where they go. Any help? Is there a wiring diagram somewhere for the factory radio? Thanks.

Tan/Gray LF, Green/Dark green RF, Blue/Lt blue RR, the remaining 2 is the LR.  The last 2 I couldn't see because my drivers door doesn't open wide enough at the moment.  These are the colors on my 85 Suburban.

if nothin else you can take the speaker wires and touch them to a battery and the speaker will make a kinda static noise. then you can find out which wire goes to which speaker

yeah, I was thinking about doing that as well. I just don't really like doing it I alwasy feel like it's going to ruin the speakers.

Just use a 9v battery, it wont hurt em. If it does, they needed to be replaced anyway. ;D

9v works great.  Plus it tells you the polarity based on which way the cone moves.  Old installer trick.
