rounded body....why are they called that
« on: March 06, 2006, 01:07:00 pm »
Why do they call these 73-87 chevy's rounded bodies. I think they are big squares. Looks to me like the 67-72 are more round than ours.

By the way I am new here but by no means new to the 73-87 chevy trucks I have owned several in the past 10 years.
My current trucks are a 77 chevy silverado shortbed widebox 2 wheel drive. 78 gmc sierra grande shortbed widebox 2 wheel drive, and a 84 gmc sierra 2500 longbed 2 wheel drive. All are pretty rusty as I live in Illinois. I want to start restoring the 84 c25 shortly as a learning process before I start on the more desireable trucks so I will have questions in the future. Thanks

maybe for the back end where the taillights are, since those are rounded?

Ummmm, maybe due to the perception one gets when looking at the cab....on the "rounded" models, the cab ends tilt more on an angle than the "box" models of pre 73.  This causes a visual perception of a more rounded flow.

You can see this on Jeff's website where it shows comparisons of the different models.

How's that for a spur-of-the-moment guess.  I even conince myself.

The best thing I can tell you is that is how you'd describe the body lines.  Open up a door and look at the edge of it, how the edge is rounded from the outside handle down to the rocker panel.  Maybe that's it?

I would guess it came from the curved side glass and smoother edges in the 73 and up trucks as compared to the flat glass and sharp edges in the 67-72. Also goes along with what sgtdel said.

Yeah, Jeff.  I was gonna see how long it would be b4 anyone notices them.  I copied them, along w/ many of the assembly line photos of the 70's last year when I saw them linked from this site.
Hey, they come in handy.

SgtDel,
I am not sure if you know this but Jeff got these from GM and paid a fee for them and signed a waiver that he would not duplicate or sell them.  He was also required to watermark them if they were published on his webpage with his URL.  By you copying them and removing his watermark you are jeopardizing his written agreement with them.  He went through a lot of trouble and time to get that along with other stuff on his site so that fellow owners could see it, only to have it copied and modified and published as someone elses work.

Chris, I had no idea.  Wasn't informed of all of that.

Be easy with your accusations.  No watermark was on them when copied last year.  I modified them in no way.

I copied these some time last year when they were mentioned in a thread.  They are really interesting pics.  They had NO markings or copyrighted info on them AT ALL.  Without that, how is one to know???

I am in the profession of enforcing the law, not breaking it.  You won't catch me knowingly braking the law ever.

Now, with that said, they have been erased from my drive.

Jeff, my apologies.  I just pulled up your site and see what Chris is talking about.  They weren't marked when i first saw them last year.  Your site is awesome and very interesting. Had I known this, you wouldn't have seen these pics from me.

Dell and Chris, thanks for your replies.

Del, you jogged my memory, there was a 1 or so week span where these pictures were posted on my site without watermarks or logos.  I had to go back and add them (I forgot, was excited I guess :)   ), more than likely you got them at that point in time.  I don't care if you save them, but to be safe and fair, re-save to ones with the logos on them...again, to cover my butt. :)   To help clarify this in the future, I added a short sentence to the pages where the photos reside.

I am not bitter, I just don't want to break any kind of agreement I had with GM.  I put them on there to share with other 73-87 enthusiast, hopefully they are being used responsibly...otherwise I might have to take them down.  It was a pain in the butt to get these...but I am sure we can all agree it was worth it.  :)

I wasn't accusing, I was just informing and expaining.  When I saw them on Jeff's site they had the watermark on them, so as far as I knew they always had them.

Thanks for the kind words Del, appreciate it...and glad you like it and can use it.

Now send me some photos of your truck and some background info (see my readers rides page for guidelines)...so I can add it to readers rides.  :)
