Beaver, Do you have a way to post a picture? I'm not sure I'm following you exactly. I believe you are talking about the choke pull-off ("vacuum thing"). Round little vacuum can on the Right front (some had a rear mounted one along with the front one), hose curving into the main body, linkage going to flap above the secondaries? If so, You need to leave it intact, this is what controls the opening rate of the secondary air flap. Without it, the air flap would just flop open as the throttle blades opened & "Quadra-bog" happens. The secondary lock-out lever can be removed (not the air flap link), if desired. I can post some pictures later if you need additional help. The Q-jet is a very good all-around carb when working properly, the problem is alot of people don't understand them, work on it & then complain/take it off thinking they are junk.
