How much clearance between driveshaft and safety loop?
« on: August 29, 2008, 08:51:55 pm »
I was installing my driveshaft safety loop tonight and the best I could position it(with that giggered heat shield in the way) it was within 1/2 or a little less.  I'm gonna probably just cut the heat shield out since I can't find the last bolt that holds it in the front.  Maybe then I could reposition it if needed, but I still need to know what is acceptable clearance.  It's a universal driveshaft safety loop.

!/2" side to side should be no problem. Up and down is when you need to keep enough to clear the shaft with the suspension travel.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Agreed, If you find a 1/2" on the sides isn't enough, you have problems with motor/trans/cab mounts. The top & bottom clearance needed will depend on your suspension travel. One area of concern is on the bottom, you may look to have plenty of clearance when sitting on the wheels, but if you lift the truck & the suspension falls, you don't want the driveshaft being the item stopping it.
