Concerning fasteners:
« on: January 26, 2009, 12:00:17 pm »
Can you turn me on to any websites, (or maybe you could just tell me about) that talk about quick-release type fasteners for body panels.  Not nessesarily dzus, but fasteners that will do the same thing;

i don't think i really want to do the tilt front end idea on this truck.  Unless i can find a cheap, used front end from a medium duty.  US body source has a tilt front end but it's $2000 not including shipping.  What i'm trying to do is to be able to take the fenders off completely and quickly including the inner fenderwells.  Looking at the service manual, i think it's just 6 bolts per side, this is with the innerfenderwells.  i can support the hood with a rod and if i need more headroom clearance i can support it with moving straps.  This way i'll have clear, easy access to the engine.

My truck is pretty nice, so psychologically i want to keep everything pretty much stock.  If the truck was raggedy, then i wouldn't have any qualms about doing radical stuff to it.

Do you think pins and quick release clips might work?

Dzus Fasteners are the best option.  Either way you are looking at some serious fabrication if you want to quickly release a structural member of the front of the truck.  It isn't practical as aligning it after you pull them would be an adventure.  US Body is the cheapest option.
