Mild Thumpr Cam Video
« on: January 15, 2009, 01:19:34 pm »
I found a good video for people interested in thumpr from comp cams It's not my video, but I've listened to it a bunch and he has a couple more of the same car.  I'm thinking about getting one, it's not ideal in my truck but will do fine and sound better than fine with a dual exhaust and cherry bomb vortex mufflers.  They now have a flat tappet version with lifters for $218 for a small block.  I emailed the owner in the video and he says the engine is a crate 350 with the mild thumpr cam PN#CL12-600-4.

I see a lot of people saying they hate thumpr cams but i also notice they get the wildest one and put it in about as wrong an application as possible.

Here's the vid

That does sound really really good. The Flowmaster Super40s are having a fair bit to do with that but you can for sure hear the lope. What does that cam spec out at? Sounds a fair bit beefier that my setup.

This is similar to the same cam I have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ_5NMiDJNA&feature=related
That cam is the Comp 268 High Energy and I have the 268 Xtreme Energy (has more lift and fast-ramp lobes)

Found a vehicle with my cam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUeYHtFUHvM&feature=related

Youtube is great for finding different cam sounds and muffler sounds. I could listen for hours!!

Here's the specs:

Both of those cams sound real good too.

I like that thumpr because it reminds me of the old mustang.  The mustang idled a little bit rougher, but not much.  I grew up around cars that sounded like that and i can't get enough of em.  I want it as rough as possible, without having to two-foot it around town, if ya know what I mean.  I don't care for the exhaust on that '57 too much, I don't like the hollow chambered-muffler sound.  I'm going to give those cherry bomb vortex a try.  They're supposed to combine, glasspack, turbo and chambered muffler technology all in one, well we'll see one day. :D

Cool, thanks for the specs. It's a step or so wilder than mine is. I'm sure it would be a fun cam so long as you have some decent gears for it.

Speaking of mufflers, when I re-do my exhaust I think I'm going with Hooker Aerochamber for much of the same reasons you are thinking of the Vortex's. I have true dual 2 1/4" right now with H pipe, no cats, 2.5" Dynomax Ultraflows with 3" tips. It sounds good with a nice gurgle to it and nice snappy sound when I'm on it, much like a glasspack when I think of it, but I'd like a bit more of a snarl and I like the design of the Aerochambers. Kinda different too than the usual Flowmasters or Magnaflows.

Here's the cam I think I'm going to get.  It's a lot milder than a thumpr, should be a good all around cam.  mostly i just drive the truck empty anyway so it'll be fine

Comp xtreme energy 268.

Yep, it's a good all-around cam. Even CompCams said in an article that they figure it's their best all-around cam they have.
