Driveshaft for 1985...PLEASE HELP...
« on: February 02, 2009, 09:18:36 pm »
I just put in a shorttail transmission in my truck, but there was a long tail tranny in it before the driveshaft that was in it was 61" overall length and now it is to short. Can anyone give me a idea what car or truck I can get a driveshaft out of that would fit its around 65-68" inches i would guess or is there a driveshaft that came out of a 73-87 chevy truck with a shorttail. By the way my truck is a shortbed. Thanx....

Have one made.  Depending on what you mean by short, it didn't come in trucks.  You could try one out of a manual 3 speed truck, but having one made is the easiest solution.

I don't know if this is for "all" long wheel base but I don't know if they ever came with a short tail shaft trans with a single piece drive shaft.  I can tell you from experience that a driveshaft out of a 3 speed stick is what is needed length wise.  It is within 1/2" of the same length as a short tail TH350.  This work was all done on a 78-79 but I went the opposite way by taking out the 3 speed stick from a 79 and putting an automatic TH350 long tail shaft.  If you are close enough to NW Indiana I still have my old one collecting dust in the shed but it is a 2 piece shaft.  You are welcome to it.
