1977 GMC Panel in progress
« on: September 30, 2009, 06:25:16 pm »
Up date I finely was able to get back on the panel truck :)
I've removed bed from my 77 and removed the 350 and put in a 305 from a 84 caprice, Why well I needed to mock up the 770r4, and run the elec fuel injection system from a 93 caprice, also figure out the rear disc brake set up it's a little easier with the bed off.
I'm also rigging up in electric fan system, cooling will be one of my next projects. I'm thinking of using the majority of the wiring from the 93 caprice and a/c system but with rear air I may rethink this.
Any feed back would be welcome, but please be civil I will do the same with you all regardless.
Pics to fallow, Ive also mocked in the rear doors still deciding the strongest route with this.

Here's the Pic's not much to show I've been working on the drive train pic's for part this will fallow after I get battery's for my camera.

I did decide to go with the fuel injection though.
I removed the 350 two put back in my one ton. and installed a 305 with a 700r4 behind it so I could mock up the exhaust.
I all so removed the bed so I could mount the 40 gal tank easier, and install the rear disc brakes

here's a  interesting   surprise  i went to measure the drive-line because every thing I had read said I would be short, nope all I had to do was move the carrier bearing mount 1 inch for ward  this didn't expose any splines on the rear slip joint but I'll have it checked or I any body knows? what it should be. the travel looks good and I will be lowering it.

I also decided to mount the body on the frame before welding in the rear doors this way I can use the cab corners from roof seem to running boards for body alignment. so mechanical first, fuel lines, brake lines, wiring etc. easier  with the body off than on.
I can also get the truck to the car wash easier and get all the guck off the frame and then to the sand blaster, maybe if the frames not to bad I can  for go the sand blasting and just paint it.

Well I get to be a father to night so back to work.

have a good one

I mounted a  dual electric fan today with two relays and  boy do they move a lot of air. I don't think over heatings going to be a problem.
I was planing on having one run constantly, the smaller one, and kick in the larger one thematically, has anyone rigged in one using stock components?
In the mean time switches will do.

My next step is the tranz lock out I've read a number of different ways to go about this using electrical switches and vacume switches in combination is the B&M kit the way to go? I'm a little wary of a pressure switches, has anybody else done this conversion (350 to 700R4) with good luck? what's the simplest and the best way to go? $1800 to replace is a lot of money.
Yes, I will be installing a trans cooler, I've got three different types to choose from.

Rear disc brakes after tranz.

howdy again, I did search the forums posts and found some good info on this swap(350 to 700R4).

question one, a switch mentioned was a th400 kick down switch, is this the one that was connected to the throttle pedal? this switch should be on my 93 right, so should every thing else needed correct?

Also mentioned was early vs late 700R4s, early being the weaker tranz, cool what years are the early and which are the late. I have a 84 caprice installed and a 93 caprice still in my Donner.
Do these Transmissions have the same mounts, and out puts?

Also should I swap and install the 93 after I finish mock-up  or should I stop and stater over using the 93 before I get to deep into this period of my setup.
