standard equipment 1981 chevy K20
« on: April 28, 2009, 01:00:19 pm »
I'm looking at a 1981 chevy k20, they guy selling it is selling for his dad who used it as a farm truck mainly and doens't know much about it.  He thinks its a 350 with a 350 trans but other than that he isn't sure on it.  I was wondering if that thing would have a 14 bolt and np205 from the factory. I'm sure someone here will know or will be a better google'er than me.  its the base model, no tilt, no air, no power anything, flat orange/red'ish paint.  its a farm truck so its got some dents on the fenders, doors and hood but there isn't any rust on it that i can see from the pictures.  i'm thinking about picking it up and sticking the hood, fenders, grill, doors, seats, steering column, dash and other stuff from my Jimmy into it and part the rest of the jimmy out.  its pretty cheap and isn't a rust bucket as far as the guy tells me.

any ideas or comments would be great

81 3/4 truck will have a 10bolt front, 14bolt rear, and a NP208 Transfer case.  NP205 were only used in 1 Tons after 1980.

think an 81 k20 would be worth 900 bucks?  its hard to find decent trucks up here that aren't completely rusted out and beat to death

Does it run?  Depending on what it looks like sure.  Especially it if isn't rusted or beaten to death.

81, 3/4 ton should have a TH 400 too. I suppose it could have a TH 350, but I have never seen one in that vintage. X2 what Capt said too.

its dented up on the fenders, hood and grill but the cab is not rusty and the rockers are not rusty.  i have good front fenders, hood and stuff from the jimmy.  was thinking about swapping over stuff from my hole of a jimmy and scrap the left overs.

that sounds like a good plan. but be careful sometimes those farmers at least the kind that i know when something breaks they try to fix it on the farm cheap...so if anything on the underside lookes bent or broken it probabl has been that way for quite some time...check it out...offer him like 800 cash and see if he takes it.

that is worrying me, i have seen alot of these trucks on farms around here and most have broken frames by the steering box.
