New Body mounts.....Any noticeable difference?
« on: March 23, 2011, 01:10:27 PM »
I am thinking that I will be replacing my body mounts soon, in an effort to get a better, quieter, smoother ride out of my Suburban. Any of yo that have done this, did you notice any change?
I would like to get it back to a nice ride....if it ever was, I am the second owner, and I don't know how they sounded or drove when they were showroom new.
Thanks!

I replaced mine with poly, the only difference was a slight lift, 1/2" or so from worn rubber.  Body mounts aren't going to make a very noticeable difference,  reducing your tire pressure will make a more noticeable difference, but a leaf sprung 4x4 will never ride "nice".

Ive rode in many vehicles with body mounts in all different conditions. Even solid. New mounts, felt like old mounts but a bit less vibration. The solid mounts was a bit of a rough ride, but I treat my truck with tough luck. I go 20mph over any and all bumps, speed bumps, gutters. I dont really care. Its just a hunk of metal that can be replaced. So, I'm planning on cheaply using hockey pucks as my body mounts, because I dont have 80 bucks to spend on rubber disks. So I figure ill spend 30 bucks on a box of used plastic or rubber hockey pucks, use however many I need on my truck and use the rest as ammo for one of my 4 potato cannons. Can anyone give me the measurement of the upper and lower mounts? The height please.

I couldn't tell a difference in mine, though after 30+ years they still LOOKED new.  the new ones raised the body a little bit and I couldnt tell a difference in the ride but this was on a 3/4 ton which isn't real smooth unless you run 5-10psi in the tires.  ;)
