What's with GM and diesels?

I've heard alot of bad things about the 6.0L too, but my stepdad has about 80K miles on his with no problems yet.  On second thought, he did have a problem that turned out to be the turbo wastegate and that was fixed under warranty a long time ago.  His main gripe is that his old 7.3 got better mileage.

If chevy would ditch the duramax and put true CAT engines in them, I'd be all over it!
