problem with getting fire
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:05:18 am »
OK so the story goes.... i checked my oil and noticed milky residue on the top of the dip stick, didn't know how it got there so i changed the oil just to be sure it wasn't a one time thing. the residue came back so i thought hopefully its just the intake gasket, replaced it with out a problem but then when i went to start it up nothing at all. OK maybe i loosened a wire in the distributor when removing it so i put in my msd with no fire still "think its bad anyway". so i grab another dis put it in still nothing this goes on about a moth or so working on it when i feel up to it. today i felt up to it so i climbed back up in it and started messing around had 12v to the hot wire (key wire) then i felt were it plugs into and when i went to install it it wasn't lined up and i bent the male pin in the dis that goes to the coil bending it so the key wire will go in but the pin doesn't tough anything but plastic fixed that and now all is OK thought i share this problem with you all just in case you have a similar problem and cant figure it out

why didnt the wire go in better with the other distributor, unless you used the same cap?
next time may want to check for voltage at the red wire, it would've shown 12v, then check it at the cap terminal inside (if it is HEI) to coil

yeah at first it was the same cap after only switching the whole works did i find the problem. i still don't know if the old coil is bad but its good to have her sucking gas and being back on the road.
