8" HD Super Lift System on a V3500
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:09:22 am »
I picked up the lift (Bought new / never used) from a friend.   He bought it for his Blazer.

I now I'm looking to remove my 3" body lift and install this 1/2 ton based 8" lift on my 1-ton V-3500.

What snags might I run into?  What basic modifications will I need to make?

I figure their is a good chance that the rear springs will be different legnth.

I also realize that I will need to correct the steering / possiably add a box brace (even though the 1-tons are stouter)
What is the better steering correction for 8" of lift.

With the kit I bought I've got front 8" HD springs / Rear 8" HD springs / Stainless front brake lines / and set of 4 shocks.

Current set up is 3" Body lift + stock leaves with a (Dump Truck) looking add-a-leaf up front.  Rear spring pack is the original 13 leaf 1-ton spring pack.

It is on 38x12.50-16.5 Swamper TSL-SX's.   I like the stance but hate the body lift.
(Fan doesn't fit the shoroud well / fuel tanks showing / bumpers do not fit well / ect)

~ ugly before pics...   PO kids were running 44's and giving the poor truck the beat down of a lifetime.

front springs should bolt up, rear springs might be a different length.   they are either 52" or 56" eye to eye.   might have to get a dropped pitman arm, or go for broke and do a crossover steering setup. (probably the better choice with an 8" lift)

Nice unit. good project.

1. Kit springs should be 52", and your 1 ton is 56".
2. Get crossover steering. (preferrably hydro assist as well) 8" is too much for steering blocks and arms.
3. Don't forget brake lines. (check skyjacker)
4. Get 4" rear lift springs, and get a 1-ton shackle flip from diy4x. That should give you 8" in the rear without the harsh ride of 8" lift springs.
5. Lengthen rear driveshaft. Call HAD (High Angle Driveline) for front shaft.
6. Steering brace from Offroad Designs
7. Good set of shocks (bilstein 5100's are relatively cheap and nice)

Good list but I would change #4
#4 Get the 4" lift springs 56", 2WD rear/rear spring hangers flip them and reverse side to side and install them, buy a good shackle. This will get you the 8" lift for the rear at 1/4 for the cost.

not sure on the 2wd thing,  the rear hangers are the same on all the trucks.   onl option is the DIY4x kit already mentioned.   you reverse the diy4x kit to allow trucks with 52" springs to run the 56" springs.
