Question about exhaust on 84 silverado
« on: January 06, 2010, 08:24:02 pm »
I recently purchased an 84 k-10 Silverado. To my knowledge it is completly stock except for an excel distributor, 4 inch lift and 35x12.5x15 tires. The 305 still runs well enough but has a horrible mess of an exhaust. Stock exhaust manifold has a bad leak on the passenger side and the smog lines have some rust holes in them. The smog pump itself has been removed by the previous owner.

If I were to buy a set of headers likes these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9006 can I just remove the rest of the smog lines. I live in a state where there is no inspections so emmissions is not an issue. Also any tips on getting the old exhaust manifold off with out busting a stripping bolts?

Should be able to get rid of those lines. Use a ton of pb b'laster and/or WD40.

All normal practicality and rational money handling goes out of the window when it comes to my truck.

Yes they will work with only modifying the Ac Bracket (Ac is on drivers side)
I used these mufflers  http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-630125/
Got some 2 1/2 pipe (6ft long) from the collector to right before the axle then put the mufflers on.
To get em past the cross member and transfer case I used my 20 ton press to crush the pipe slightly then lowered the trans and transfer case put the pipes and muffler in than jacked everything back and then bolted the cross member back in
