New Center Caps

Has anyone tried putting new Silverado 8 lug center caps on older steel wheels? I have Black 16.5's on my truck and plan on putting the new centers on with stainless beauty rings. I have the rings but i don't know if the centers will fit. I know i need the double threaded lug nuts and can get those easily. I was curious to know if anyone has tried this yet. I would like to know before i go buy centers and lug nuts that won't work. Thanks for your input.

im not sure what lug nut size the 3/4 ton trucks run, but if its like our 1/2 ton trucks and uses a 1/2 lug nut, grab lug nuts off of a astro van.. those are the same NON metric lug nuts that fits. NNBS trucks uses metric lug nuts and obviously will not work unless you press out all your old lug nuts and press in new ones... either way. People have put NNBS 8 lug wheels on OOBS trucks before so it would bolt up.

3/4T uses the 9/16 studs. I got the conversion lug nuts at a swap meet for $.75 a piece.

I know the lug nuts are different, but they're easy to get. I was unsure if the center cap itself will fit or whether it is too big and would hit the rim.

Here's a pic of the steel wheel caps on my old 1978 16 inch wheel. It fits with a little bit to spare.
The steel wheel caps are bigger around then the aluminum wheel caps. the ones in your pic above are for aluminum wheels so they will be a bit smaller than the one in my pic.
I think it would look good on a silver wheel. Maybe get a trim ring, dunno how available they are for 16.5 though.
Just hunt for "dual thread" 9/16 lug nuts and you'll be all set. I think I got mine off ebay for $38 shipped for all 32 of em.

Alright. That made my day. I really appreciate the feedback. I'll post pics when I get them all worked out. I bought Stainless trim rings for 16" rims and they ended up being too big for my 16.5's go figure. Luckily my neighbor has a TIG welder so we can trim them down to size. Once i get the caps and lug nuts I'll just have to put everything together and snap some pics. I think the combination of polished trim rings and Chrome center caps will look good on my satin black steelies. Thanks again.
