Double hump trans crossmember?
« on: February 28, 2010, 11:22:39 pm »
I have a 79 C-10, originally had a 250 I6 with a 3 on the tree m/t. Now I have a 454 in it with a TH400. I went all the way, changed the steering column and pedals to the auto trans stuff. The transmission crossmember is not the same crossmember that was in my 72 C10 or the one that was in my 78 C10 suburban. Those trucks were both automatic. I assume the reason the crossmember is different on this truck is because it had a manual trans. The TH400 bolted right up to this crossmember and the holes were even in the frame for it.

The problem I have is that with my headers, I cant get my 36" section of pipe to bolt up to the header on the drivers side. On the passengers side there is a hump for exhaust clearance. There is no hump on the drivers side for exhaust clearance. Is there another crossmember I can bolt on or am i going to have to go to the muffler shop and have the pipe bent for clearance? I dont really want to do that, i want my two 36" sections of pipe, one off each header.

I am using magnaflow mufflers :) Cant wait to get this all done.

I used a crossmember out of a '73-'74 1-ton, it has Two large humps & bolts to the under side of the top frame flange...Maybe someone has one laying around? I'll see if I've got any pic's in the next day or so. Lorne
