I bought my 78 Silverado new, and after 230K miles have begun to put it back into good shape. Along the trail , I've been through two 350s, a differential, and a transmission overhaul. We both now share that weatherbeaten and experienced look. I started to refurbish the truck last summer, replacing tires, shocks, and the original differential. I sold a 91 Dodge diesel for motor money in November, and have spent the last two months practically living in catalogs. I decided to go for a crate 350/290, Edelbrock Performer manifold and carb, and a 2500 stall torque converter. Bought the engine two weeks ago just before GM raised prices on performance parts. A friend, a long time racer, did the install and arranged for a quality transmission overhaul. I picked the truck up yesterday afternoon and just had enough time get 30 miles on it and change oil before the latest norther blew in. I have not had as much fun behind the wheel since parting with a 69 GTO in 1974. All the parts running and the install have helped to clear out the winter cobwebs. The snow we are getting today will be gone in a couple of days and warmer spring weather is at hand. I plan to work on the interior and door mechanisms this summer, and get to bodywork and paint next year.
