need door panel paint
« on: February 18, 2010, 02:12:29 pm »
Anyone know of another brand of interior paint besides sem.  I have sem now and sprayed my door panels but the color is off.  It is the darkest color they have before black but it seems to light.  I am trying to match factory charcoal.

Don't know if its any good but Duplicolor makes it.  HVP111 is their charcoal gray.

Thanks, I see that advance sells that stuff.  I will go check it out in the morning and see if the color is any darker than the sem paint I got.

Why does it seem better to you.  I see that it is a coating and not a dye but sem color coat is not a dye also.  Does it lay the same as sem.   I did not have a chance to check the color of the duplicolor and had decided that I was going to buy a can of satin black sem and punchure it and mix it with my paint I already have.  I was think of like a 2:1 ratio and then putting it in a preval sprayer.  Now maybe I will go  buy a can of duplicolor.

ive used duplicolor on a few cars, and it usally works great. just make sure everything is super clean and clear of any grease, oil, armor all and all that stuff cause if its not totally stripped of the paint will not stick at all, and that will just make a huge ugly mess. simple green is a great cleaner for interior parts, even on stuff that looks clean you will get a TON of gunk off, you will see it on your rag, dont be alarmed. lol

you have to make sure the surface area is prepped correctly when u use the duplicolor. and i mean CORRECTLY, so be anal. the slightest bits of oil even from your fingertips can cause delamination later. i'd use some degreaser, and maybe even some latex gloves and keep everything super clean. otherwise the duplicolor stuff should work. i've been told that the sem just actually holds up longer than the cheap auto zone stuff.
