Spare tire bracket?
« on: March 14, 2010, 07:12:04 pm »
I have a C30 SRW (single rear wheel) It came with the spare tire package and I am not a spare tire fan. I just don't like seeing the big ugly thing hanging under the truck. I took the tire and carrier off the truck today but there is one bracket that is attached to the frame on the right side, it seems its riveted through the frame. My question is do the trucks that don't come with spare tires have this bracket? I will take the bracket off if it shouldn't be there or leave it on if every truck has it. Thanks!

Hello, your truck should have a long thru bolt instead of a rivet on that side. But if it is a rivet,  you can dremel or use a cutoff wheel to take down some of the head, and then get a chisel or puch on there and remove it clean. Just did this over the weekend on mine in order to install a hitch. Hope this helps.

There was a through bolt on each side of the truck, the right side has a bracket that the through bolt attaches to, the left side bolt simply attaches to the frame.

My first thought was to grind the head off the rivet and us a punch to pop it through but I didn't know if every truck came with the bracket, if so I will leave the bracket. Stupid I know...

iirc that bracket stays either way. are you talking about the one that has a long bolt always connected to the lower spare tire carrier?
