Throttle Body Holley 502-6
« on: March 03, 2010, 01:26:39 am »
Hey guys.....

Thinking about replacing my stock Throttle body on my 87 GMC Sierra Classic.  (It's not looking very good.) Looking for some educated opinions on the Holley 502-6 throttle body and the 3704 Edelbrock performance manifold. Holley is claiming UP TO a 25% increase in horsepower/torque. Not sure if I really buy that.  Can't really find any reviews on-line about either one.  Called Jegs and Schucks, and of course got several different opinions.  And is a spacer really helpful?  Seen a few articles where they are talking about how great they are, but I don't really know anything about them.

My 350 is 100% stock, with 132k on it, may 232k.....  It feels like it's getting a little tired and just wanted to give it a new little life without going into the engine.  This is a collaborative effort to make an educated choice on my side.  So all of your thoughts/recommendations on what to do.  Throttle body, spacer, intake kit....  just throttle body spacer....   no spacer or manifold, just a stock throttle body, or maybe even just new injectors and a cleanup of the throttle body, etc, etc, etc.

Really do appreciate your help.  I used to rely on my dad for advice, but he is gone now.   >:(  So turning to you guys.

Thanks,
Brandon

i cant say i know anything about the tbis but the old quads there ain't nothing wrong with them if you turn them up.  when was the last tune up you had done on your truck? i would take the tbi and just clean it up along with new plugs rotor cap wires and fuel filter, as far as spacers i think they do help out a little a aluminum intake wouldn't hurt

You will most likely need to chip the truck to use the Holley.  The throttle bores are bigger and flow more air.  Everyone that I know that did this ended up getting a chip to correct the problems.  If you want to give it new life, rebuild the stock TBI, they are simple to rebuild and won't cost you an arm and leg.
