new to the family: '80 K20 donor metal for my dad.
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:15:44 pm »
My brother and i rolled up to reno in my K30 to snag this clean body beauty for our dad. his 74 has no piece of sheet metal not infected with cancer..  It ran brilliant on all the way home..  (3.5 hour drive)  so now jerk motor, tranny, and T-case to go on CL, and hopefully make near what we paid for her back. ..  hopefully.

and heres the recipient of that body, daddys wagon, the proud patriarch of our family the one we grew up in the back of...  the big bad 74 K20..  454, custom 3in stainless exhaust, dana 60 upgrade..  check out that homemade bumper!

Its great to fix up a family heirloom, but it seems like a cryin' shame to dismantle the truck you just bought.  It looks extra nice.

That truck looks clean. I gotta ask, why not just put your dads drivetrain into the 80 K20?
I know the body swap will go quickly if working with rust free parts, was just wondering why. Good luck with the truck.

Hey Fitz..   we thought about going either way and decided to keep dads Frame.. mainly because we wanna get it cleaned up and coated..  maybe not a full on Resto..  but you know..  all new body mounts and such. and were gonna gut the inside of the cab for paint.  we are fairly confident the donor body will come off pretty easy. plus dad has sentimental attachment.. he's had the truck a long time and this way it will still feel like his original..
