Sold my Camry!
« on: April 13, 2010, 10:24:30 pm »
I am going to miss that car! But I think the profit it made me, and the use I got out of it for 5 years will make it all better!  ;D
Bought from the original owners. Always serviced and repair at the Toyota dealer.
A 1991 Camry with 141,000 miles, new radiator, all new brakes, fairly new tires.

Paid.                                                                                                                         $  400

Drove it for a two years, had to put a windshield in it because of a rock hitting it.                  $  120
Plus oil changes and general repairs. A new set of tires.

Had two parts cars given to me. One of them had four nice almost new all season tires on it.
Bought a parts car with 4 brand new meaty snow tires on it.                                               $  100
Total invested                                                                                                             $  620

Kept the new snow tires, and sold the $100 parts car with my 3/4 worn out tires on it for.        $  300
Total invested now                                                                                                       $  320

Drove it for a couple more years did the basics another set of brakes, master cylinder,
timing belt, etc. etc.
Let my now ex girlfriends son borrow it. It got rearended, and then sideswiped two days later.
Got $1,200 plus $255 for not taking a rental car out of that deal.                                         $1,455

Profit                                                                                                                         $1,135

Kept the car for free, sold it tonight for                                                                            $  250

Total profit made.                                                                                                         $1,385

Plus put almost 65,000 miles on it

  Good job.
As much as I love American iron it amazes me how well how well the foreign cars sell. I run a small used car lot as a side job and these older foreign cars are my bread and butter. It seems like I can sell a 5 year old American car with 75K miles on it or a 15 year old Foreign car with 250K on it and turn the same proffit.

She was getting rough in the rust dept. too!
I threw in all the parts I had collected except the snow tires. Kid got 2 drivers front power doors, a set of 4 non power doors, two fenders, off one of the free parts cars. That one was from Fla. He got spare starters, alt., headlight assemblies, complete set of tail lights. Bunch of other crap. Plus two brand new fenders, and rear quarter panel arches still in the box that had come with the other free parts car.
Plus I cut the entire lower rear quarter off both sides of the Fla. car. They were in the trunk. About all he will need for body parts is a trunk lid, and some sheet metal to patch the rockers.

Rough in the rust department, I'm SHOCKED!  I thought it was a requirement in NE to have the rust.  Kind of like Cali emissions.

Sounds like you both got your money's worth out of it.
