Straight six swap to Small block V 8
« on: March 26, 2010, 02:17:18 pm »

Got a '79 C 10  with a 250 straight six, 350 TH auto.  Looking to drop in a donor  '86  350 V8.
C 10 Donor also has a 350 TH auto.

What parts will I need for this swap?  Motor mounts, throttle cable,, ..........?

Throttle cable yes.  Upper and lower radiator hoses, a V8 power steering pump bracket if it doesn't have one, bigger radiator wouldn't be a bad idea. I have made a I6 engine wire harness work but the V8 one fits a little better. Other than that it should drop right in. It will bolt to your existing TH 350 if you don't know much about the new one, and yours is good. Use the torque converter from the V8.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Wow, that's it?  Can it really be that easy?

How about the motor mounts?  Detent cable?  Any Trouble with transmission lines to the radiator?

You have to move the mounts bolted to the frame stands to the V8 position.  Trans lines should be ok, or can be made to fit.  Done this a number of times.  My truck I bought in 89 came with a 6, it has had a 350 and 454 in it, same harness.
