bogging problems
« on: May 12, 2010, 02:00:55 pm »
I have a 350 in my 86 k10. Its got a holley 600 carb on it. Timing is set at 10. Idles great. When i get on it it bogs down and either dies or almost dies. Revs up fine when not in gear. Also when you get on it slowly and in first and then punch it its fine until later in 2nd gear when it just starts backfiring and wont go over 60mph. Any ideas? What should my fuel pressure be set at?

check the obvious first....any vacuum leaks?  Look at every vacuum line and spray wd40 around vacuum line ends and connections, and around the carb gasket at intake, etc while engine idles.  If rpms go up while spraying wd40, you found a vacuum leak.

make sure your distributor cap is not cracked.  Make sure your rotor is fine.  Do you have any spark plug wires crossed?
Did you check the timing while your vacuum advance is plugged?  Did this problem start happening all of the sudden? What did you do w/ the engine recently prior to the problem?

it also sounds like trash in the carb.  has it run out of gas recently--thereby sucking up the trash at the bottom of the tank?  check your fuel filter recently?
