not getting fuel from tank
« on: April 20, 2010, 10:45:29 am »
hey everyone. i am new to this helpful site. i've got a complicated question. i have a 77 crew cab 2wd w/ dual tanks. it didn't have a bed when i got it and prev owners only used dr. side tank. i found a bed w/ pass. side opening. i put gas in pass. tank and ran fine for a week then stopped running. i switched tanks and cleaned lines and sending unit. it has elec. and manual fuel pumps. elec. works but not sucking gas. does the sending unit help deliver fuel or is it just for the gauge? also can i bypass the selector valve altogether since i won't be using dr. side tank? soon to be a daily driver. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

where is the clog, could it be the filter? If the tank had not been used for a while, it might have scaled up. Filling and running from it may have clogged your fuel filter.

What do you mean it has electric and manual fuel pumps?  I would assume that it has a mechanical fuel pump only and that the sending unit is just a sending unit.  Do you have an in-line electric pump?  How do you know its not sucking gas?  Do you have the stock quadrajet carb.?  If so you should check out the fuel filter where the fuel line enters the carb.  What have you checked so far?

sorry. it has an in-line elec. pump. all the fuel lines from the tank forward and filters are clean. it's not sucking gas because when i disconnect the line from tank to in-line filter it is dry as a bone. the is a 292 six.

When I bought my truck, it had dual tanks but only one worked. I eventually got around to fixing the other side and making everything work properly. After I fixed everything, I couldnt believe I didnt do it sooner. It is so much nicer to have both tanks.

Blow in the line from the tank and see if you blow bubbles or it just blows or there is a clog in the line
