wiring problems
« on: May 10, 2010, 03:16:31 pm »
I have a few problems with wiring on my truck that i cant seem to figure out. Its an 86 k10. My lights only work on high beam and when i go to low beam only the lower lights work not the headlights. My blinker wont work. They used to work and then they just stopped. Also my gauge lights are very dim and the dimmer doesnt do anything when turned. When i turn my lights on my sub makes a noise and it also does this when i honk the horn. Every time i honk the horn it blows the relay too. Any help is appreciated.

This should get you started. Did it all of a sudden start, or did this problem start after you did something, whether you realize it or not? Check all your grounds, fuses, get a good test light and start tracing wires.

Ive done a lot of wiring tracing. I had my blinkers working and then all of a sudden they stopped working, all my fuses are good.

My blinker wont work.
What do you mean by blinker, the Flasher relay, the switch or are you talking about the turn signal lights don't blink, or do they not come on at all?

Also my gauge lights are very dim and the dimmer doesnt do anything when turned
Can you turn them on an off?

Low beams dont work, thought it was just the bulbs but they arnt getting power when switched to low beam

Park lights

I meant the nothing worked at all, but i had my interior light wire going to my stereo so it was shorting them out, now they work, but the horn is still shorting out. Anyone have a wiring diagram for the horn?

Can you turn them on an off?
no they just stay really dim no matter what, you cant even tell unless your looking right at the bulb itself. Also my high beam light flashes with my blinkers

Sounds like you have multiple wiring issues and possibly some wiring from your radio going to the wrong spot.   Did you look at the Wiring Diagram lists in the Tech section that Beastie_3 posted?
