Antenna troubles
« on: June 19, 2010, 04:42:30 pm »
For some reason, my antenna doesn't work so well. I Have traced the wire all the way from the inner fender to the back of the radio, but I can find no sign of anything that would cause a problem. On FM, the speakers have some static. On AM, all they have is static. However CD, and USB inputs play with perfect clarity. The only thing that appears to be even slightly wrong is that the antenna itself is a little.. tilted. As though some part of its mounting is missing or broken. But there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. It just leans back about 3 inches.

I don't think that is something that would cause the problem though. So what should I do? Just replace the whole antenna assembly and start from scratch?

I would check to make sure your it isn't your radio.  Sounds like it is your antenna but I have had a bad radio that did what you are describing, switched it out and the problem went away.  My $.02

I had some problems with the radio itself to begin with, so I ended up hooking it up outside the truck on a bench to troubleshoot and it worked fine with that antenna. So I have come to the conclusion that this problem, has to be the truck somehow.
