gear swap on my 4x4
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:14:02 am »
I am building a 85 shorty with a 6" lift and a 305 and 35" tires. I am running a 700r trany and the motor is a fresh built 305 so I am gonna keep it even though i would prefer a 350. My question is this I don't know alot about this gear thing but i hear everyone talking about it. I presently have a Dana 44 in the front and a 12 bolt gm in the rear. I have taken the cover off and found that i am running 308's for gears. My buddy just sold me a set of 373 for the front and I have a line on a set for the rear. Is this change out worth it? is it going to make a difference and if so how much. This truck is only going to be my weekend truck for my coffee runs etc. it will never see off road it is a show truck only. I never really drove the truck I just bought it and tore it down however when I did drive it i did find it very sluggish, will changing the gear help that?

Go for it. It will make a big difference in perceived power.
