addicted to the yards.... 4" lift questions....
« on: October 16, 2010, 08:15:30 pm »
On weekends I take any time that I can and walk through the local pick and pull.  They are well prices and i usually find a gem or two that helps me with my 79 k10 restoration.  Last week I bought bucket suburban seats (leather) and we welded and put them in last night.  They are out of a 86 suburban and odly enough they were perfect.  Not even a single tear or rip in them.  I was lucky.  They make the truck much more comfortable.  Today,  i went back to pull some springs off of a 78 blazer that has a 4" lift on it.   I want to lift my k10 from 2 to 4 inches.  I have limited $ so I decided to pull the springs off the blazer and buy some new ubolts and rear blocks.  I found the U bolts and 4" rear blocks at the suspension connections website for $80.   Is there anything else that you guys can think of that I will need for this project on my 79 k10?  Should i replace the bushings on the front and rear while i am at it, if so where can I find some?  What do you think of putting Hurculiner on the springs, only to prevent any sqeeking and any noise?  Or would the Hurculiner damage the springing on the springs?  Many questions..  Please send me your ideas and suggestions for the lift project.  I am going to post pictures also.

I would use POR15 or similar on the springs, and install poly bushings. And like three8six said, consider that you may have to lengthen a driveshaft and get a raised steering arm, dropped pitman arm, or Z-draglink. In my experience Herculiner is garbage.

Up to 4" of lift your drive shafts should be fine. Pitman arm as mentioned needs to be for the lift. I would get the one off the Blazer the springs came from. Longer brake flex hoses wouldn't be a bad idea.
