Rear shackle flip
« on: February 13, 2011, 02:37:56 am »
I have an '84 silverado 4x4.  Will adding the shackle flip decrease my load weight because the leaf springs are not as bent.  And will my weight on bumper amount lessen as well.  I have a feeling that some weight capacity is going to be lost.  Any info is appreciated.

The whole point of a shackle flip is to increase flex. You will lose capacity. I can't say exactly how much though. The guys over at coloradok5.com are always helpful & have a lot of knowledge when it comes to our trucks or Pirate4x4 (Stay in the noob section at first, trust me). I have to head out, but if you don't find an answer I can do some more research for you later.  ;)

A shackle flip most time is for a 4" lift.

A shackle flip most time is for a 4" lift.

It will give between 2.5 & 4 inches depending on shackle length. There are multiple kits out there. But the overall goal is to increase suspension flex. :)

it has a 4" lift w/ 35's on it now.  I am curious because i have a 26 ft. bumper hitch rv. and i am afraid that the overloads may hit.  But i also like 4 wheelin with it also that is why i am interested in the extra flex
