Wiper issues

OK so the wipers in my 86 are not workingquite right. They would sometimes not turn off no matter what p[position the switch was in. Sometimes they would only work in the off position. Once in a while the intermittent would work but most times they would run on low speed when in the intermittent postions. Most of the time you have to turn it to to mist position to get them to shut off! The more i messed with the switch the more the issues would change but they still wouldn't work properly. So assuming that because the issues changed with the switch being messed with I put a new switch in ($97). Didn't solve the problem. I then figured well it must be the pulse board. I tried three different used ones same issues. I then swapped in a known good used motor, Same problems. So I tried a new pulse board. Still have problems. Any ideas?

Have you checked the circuit that runs your wipers for any kind of short or ground issue ?

Have you verified the wires to the stalk are not frayed?
Have you eliminated the intermittent module to see if that is the problem?

I have tried three used, and one new pulse board, I doubt that its the problem. The wires to the stock switch are brand new they come on the switch. I swapped my 86 harness into this 83 cab several years ago, I know all the grounds are good as they are all on the e brake pedal bracket. I have wiggled them and also everything else works correctly. I would think if it was a poor ground there would be other issues. I have check the wires over somewhat. I am going to look further once plow season is done. I don't want to go crazy pulling stuff apart to inspect wiring just now.

i had same issues on my 79. I found the problem to be under the hood, under the plastic cover of the wiper motor....there is a cam inside that plastic cover--sort of like an old point distributor. Mine was loose and this controls the activation of the wiper motor. I had to turn mine on spray sometimes to turn it off, sometimes they would turn on all by themselves, etc...I finally found a way to keep pressure on the cam arm with a small bunji cord--by keeping the arm and cam held in place, only then did the wipe motor work correctly. One day i'll get a new setup from a donor. It doesnt bother me now.

Well I suppose the used motor I put in could be messed up. It doesn't look very old. I will check it out. I know the new motor is stronger than the old one, it will move more snow now!

I know it’s a different setup but in my 94 it has similar problem replaced the whole wiper motor fixed it. in a work truck about the same year it was doing something like that but I could pop the hood and smack the motor with my hand it would work right till next time I went to use it again
