Hey y'all
« on: March 17, 2011, 09:02:37 am »
I am excited to find this forum. I recently purchased an 85 Scottsdale 4x4 LWB. The truck has 33 inch mudtires on stock rims, which is fine for me,this truck is going to be mainly used for hunting and running around on the weekends. What I'm having issues with is the truck is supposed to have a rebuilt 305 in it with a 650 cfm Edlebrock on top and a recently rebuilt transmission. The truck does not seem to have a lot of power and it also does not seem to like to go above 55 mph. I've been told the 650 cfm is too big for that motor, but I'm also looking into getting a 350 put in. I had a 99 4x4 with the 5.3 so I'm used to being able to get on it when I need to. Forgot to add I'm from Benton,Arkansas.

Welcome from Dayton OH!

All I can say is "check it out". Is the ignition timing right? Did the timing chain get replaced incorrectly? Are all 8 cylinders firing? I wouldn't jump to the carb being to big altho I agree it is somewhat. The other possibility is big tires do kill a 305. What axle and gear is in it?

First thing I did waas had the timing checked out and the carb adjusted. I dunno the gear ratio but I'm suspecting factory settings. I also don't know where I can find the OEM spec's. Agreed about the 305 I'm ready for it to go.

I was running a 307 in a 77 deluxe with an edlebrock 650, it was also on 33s and didn't have an issue with power!   I don't believe the size of the carb is the whole issue!  That was after I had it rebuilt though!  Before that I had the lack of power issue and found I had lost compression in two cylinders! I would start by checking there!

Oh and welcome from Central Texas!

Dump the 305 and get a 5.3 to shove in there!
