Resto Paint
« on: April 21, 2011, 07:38:19 pm »
Powerblock TV has an on line magazine that this months issue really was good.In it a guy revived old paint to look like new but the end of the article is what I was wondering about. In the last two sentences they said a good compound and a buffer will repair almost any paint issue. My trucks paint on one side has what a lot have out in AZ. where the clear coat has failed. My question is this can this be done or should I just get it painted? Thanks

I'd like to see the link too, though my 74 is beyond saving the original paint, its cool to read stuff and keep it in the memory.

On a completely unrelated subject, Beastie, shouldn't you be flyin Sharks colors? Santa Clara is closer to San Jose than it is to Detroit :)

Meh, I was a sharks fan growing up, I'm from the northbay, Sharks/49ers and Giants, I don't like basketball though

Do you think the paint can be corrected without repainting?

One of the members of another forum I visit is a paint corrections expert.  He is always posting up his projects (sometimes with 100+ photos) as a way to drum up a little business.  He has done amazing things with clearcoat fade, paint overspray, chipping/cracking/peeling, etc.  It seems to just depend upon how badly the base coat is damaged, and your expectations.  As far as I can tell, as long as there is any clearcoat left at all, you can get a pretty good correction done.  Definitely worth a shot before repainting, after all, what have you got to lose?
