Speaker Access (replacing the 4x10)
« on: May 17, 2006, 01:06:00 AM »
Hi all, I've got a '78 C20 I'm finally managing to kick into shape (except the body- that's a whole other project ^^;) , but I find myself stuck on the stereo. I managed to track down a decent 2post tape deck, which I've gotten installed, and it works nicely. However, the truck came with the single 4x10 in the dash, and it is completely blown. I can't manage to quite fit my hands up under the dash to feel around as to how to get it out.

My question is, what /is/ the best way to get the speaker replaced? I have a pair of decent speakers already that I can install, but am unsure how to get them mounted without removing the entire dash.

To replace Dash speakers you HAVE to remove the dash pad.  That is one only way.  The bolt in from the top.

There are also locations on each side to mount 3.5" speakers...  Still, you have to remove the dash.

Ah well, I'd hoped it would be easier. Thanks much for the input, though. *wanders off to find the Haynes manual*

12 bolts on the bezel, 5 across the bottom of the dash. Lift up/pull out.
