79 Crew E Brake Help
« on: June 23, 2011, 12:08:17 am »
Hi all, I purchased another crew last month. I had ground the guy down and offered him half the cost asked due to rivited rockers and valve cover leaks. At that point he said "Just take it for a spin I am sure it will grow on you". I took the truck around the block, same as any other 4 spd bbc lol. As I rolled back onto the driveway with him grinning and a "how'd that feel". I stepped on the E brake and snap! there went the cable, and a metal bar with 2 looped ends feel to the ground. Needless to say he took less than my first offer and more than half the cost (possibily due to embarsement) Now here is where my troubles are. I have two pieces of broken cable running from drum up each side of the frame to near the bell housing. Can anyone help in teaching a unsure bowtie guy where the bar and or cables are to be routed? Also where to find the parts and measurements of cables?

Any help would be great! thanks, Chris

the same thing happened years ago to my 79.  I went to apply the parking brake and "bam!".  Went to a salvage yard and got everything i needed for the repair.

I have tried to go to the local wreckers to get parts but there are no crews in alberta to be found! I have 3 other crew cab duallys but all are the V sieres TBI with a different cable set up. so I am unsure as to what to do. And as for your pic irsh alley, it seems like the cable set up could be correct except instead of num.7,8,9 there is just one bar with two hoops that looks like it may have sat with a hoop threw the pass cable and the other hoop threw the drivers cable. Now as far as brake system... jb7  jb8??? how do I know? anymore help would be great. Also with all the dually guys around.... is there a dually forum or a place just for our guys? thanks a bunch and hope to hear back soon!

$1k for that thing.... :o

I'm jealous, because I bought my 1986 dually for much more than that.

Nice looking truck though!

On a related note, have you tried a place called Kendale Truck parts in Edmonton?  You don't get to snoop around for your parts there, because you just tell them what you want and they tell you if they have it or not.  But sometimes their prices can be a little high.....possibly because they do the dirty work for you.
