1987 Chevy 350 TBI starting issue
« on: July 29, 2011, 08:36:12 pm »
Hello all,
I have an 87 v3500 with a TBi 350 and the other day I go to start it and no dice. The truck turns over fine and seems like the fuel pump is priming.  However I looked in the throttle body when cranking and the injectors do not pump fuel. None of the fuses are blown but I am not sure where to go from here.  I am a little lost as to where to go from here. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Corrected for spelling

on a side note, when I bought the truck about a year ago the owner told me that every so often ( 6months to a year) the ignition module would need to be switched with one he had in the truck he said it would just not start and I figured that was it at first but then checked to see if I was getting fuel to the TB and I wasn't so i figured it was just something else.  Then I was reading online about how the ignition module could cause the fuel issue too, is that the case?

Also not getting spark, I am starting to think more and more it is the ignition module

i think you're right...ignition module is so easy to replace.  Take your old one off.  It's best to keep an extra in glove compartment anyway so you wont be stranded anywhere.  Been there, done that.
You can take your old one off and have it checked at a parts store.  But, i never took stock in that.

Ignition module controls spark and injector pulse.

Must be a cheap brand if it goes bad every 6 months.  Make sure to use the grease that comes with the new module...
