Column multi-function switch
« on: September 06, 2011, 08:27:25 am »
Yesterday I was installing the engine and front lighting harness on my 80/85 K10 project. I say 80/85 because it is an 85 cab on 80 frame with 80 front clip. Anyway, all the wiring is from the 85 and after installing all the harnesses the marker lights would stay on and the cluster would not light up, etc. Basically lots of electrical gremlins. We traced everything and not seeing any real issues decided to unplug the column multi-function switch and the markers turned off. Some time ago I switched a column from a 90 or 91 suburban. My buddy remembered that a mechanic that he works with had a similar problem when he swapped columns in his Nova. Luckily we had a new older multi-function switch, plugged it in and it worked perfectly. Obviously I need to swap the switch, but I was wondering if GM changed something in a certain year or its just a broken switch. This info might be important to those that do tilt column swaps.

78-86 will have simular wiring, are you asking about tilt vs non-tilt, still will be the same.
If the switch fixed it I would assume it was your problem.  The truck doesn't know what year it is so if you took all the 85 stuff in put it in, it should work.
