Started to drive my truck after 2 years in the garage....
« on: September 17, 2011, 02:46:27 pm »
So heres the story I replaced the engine on my 74 swb gmc 350 and to make a long story short i had to keep it in the garage for two years. I want to start driving it again so i bought a new battery changed the distributor Cleaned the edelbrock carb did a tune up. I also fixed one of the heads. So my mechanic tells me i have to drive it a lot to get rid of all the crap inside the engine. Is this true? Some steam like smoke
comes out of the exhaust. The engine has less thAn 1k miles. Im a total noob any advice is greatly appreciated.

If it's been sitting that long, I'd want to get rid of the gas that's in it. Will probably smell like varnish.

Also carefully inspect your hoses especially the radiator and heater hoses.

Dont worry about a little exhaust discharge...provided its only from your truck....
